Introducing Katelin and Ryland

In a previous post I had mentioned the International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago - which was a crazy whirlwind and somehow six(!) months ago... It was two months of prep, lots of late nights, exhaustion and stress, a week indoors without seeing the sun in a meaningful way - it was crazy. Worth it, and awesome - but crazy.

After that trip, Rue and I took a short vacation to southern California for some much needed R&R and to celebrate the marriage of some close friends of mine, Katelin and Ryland.

Katelin has been a dear friend of mine for over 10 years now (it blows my mind to know that amount of time has passed since we first met at school), and I've had the pleasure of getting to know Ryland more over the past couple years as well. They live in Topanga, California in the tiny house they built together.

Ryland is a food gardener and landscape designer, and Katelin is a jeweler. They both grew up spending time in the Pacific ocean and the Santa Monica mountains. Ryland surfs every day that the waves are good, and Katelin hikes the trails out their front door. They cook vegetarian meals at home together.

Ryland and Katelin had a small camping wedding at the end of March. The site was set up for people to arrive when they could, hike, explore, spend a night or two under the stars, and make ready for the wedding itself.

They were married in an intimate ceremony in a valley between the mountains of Malibu State Park. Enveloped in a ring by closest friends and family, a love fire burned at the center of the circle we made. Forgive me for waxing poetic, but even the landscape itself seemed to submit to their beauty, letting them be the ones that truly shined the brightest that day. It was incredibly compelling, and I'm so glad to have been a part of it.

They are wonderful people, and I'm so excited to introduce you to them here. From time to time they will write posts for this blog, updating us on their lives, letting us in on the magic. Their first post is coming up next week! Until then, you can check out Ryland’s gardens here, and Katelin’s jewelry here.
